Your Child’s Treasury of Jewish Books

parents reading to small children

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is thrilled to share PJ Library® (PJ, as in “pajamas”) with our entire community. This program provides families raising Jewish children from newborn–8 years old with a FREE treasury of Jewish books! Every month, families enrolled in PJ Library receive a high-quality, expertly-selected and kid-tested (!) Jewish book or CD as a gift from the community. PJ Library in Greater Washington is a gift from The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington,  the Emanuel J. Friedman Philanthropies, the Bender Foundation, the Charles E. Smith Family Foundation, the David Bruce Smith Foundation, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

Everything You Need to Celebrate Chanukah with Kids
This year, Chanukah will begin in the evening on Sunday, November 28th, and ends in the evening on Monday, December 6th.

Sharing Chanukah at School
If your child attends a secular or public school, you may be invited to teach a short lesson about Chanukah to their class. In PJ Library’s quick guide for the “Chanukah Parent,” you’ll find story suggestions and activity ideas for three age groups: preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school.

7 Delicious Foods from Around the World to Try This Chanukah
Go beyond latkes and jelly donuts for tasty dishes from all over the world that your family can enjoy during Chanukah this year.

Two New Podcasts, Two Chanukah Episodes
PJ Library has two brand new storytelling podcasts! In the Chanukah episode of Afternoons With Mimi (great for ages 2 to 5), Grandma Mimi tells a kid-friendly version of the Chanukah story and explains some of the ways we celebrate. In Beyond the Bookcase (geared towards ages 6 to 12), our heroes take us for a tale of courage in the unbelievable land of Mashal, where Jack Be Nimble is jumping over … a chanukiyah!
