Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger

MAZON provides cash grants to a broad spectrum of nonprofit organizations working to confront hunger, principally in the United States but also in Israel and impoverished countries. Its dual purpose is to provide immediate relief and to focus on long-term solutions to the systemic causes of poverty and hunger. MAZON raises funds by asking American Jews to contribute a suggested amount of three percent of the cost of joyous celebrations such as b’nai mizvot, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. Other funds come from annual Passover and High Holy Day appeals and thousands of commemorative contributions. Grantees include food pantries; food banks; multi-service organizations; advocacy, education and research programs; and international relief and development organizations. Only accept monetary donations and stocks.
