American University Hillel

What We Do
Hillel is the center of Jewish life at American University, serving the cultural, religious, educational, social and political needs of all segments of our Jewish community. AU is a special place and Hillel is one of its most dynamic and active programs.

Washington, DC
The Washington area has a vibrant Jewish community, offering students a wide variety of cultural, social, educational, and political opportunities. Students engage in political activism and intern in local and national Jewish organizations, and there are opportunities to get involved in the area through community service projects.
AU Hillel Activities
AU Hillel publishes a monthly newsletter and maintains an electronic mailing list, and offers a wide range of programs as well as educational and counseling services. Hillel helps students locate internships and job opportunities, and helps students plan for Israel trips with programs and financial aid information. It also involves students with regional programming in the Washington area including social events, evenings at the Embassy of Israel, and programs of social and political interest.

Partnerships / Programs
Hillel works with a number of active student groups. The AU Students for Israel sponsor speakers, social programs and cultural events including the annual Israel Fair. Jewish law and graduate students regularly meet for social and educational programs. Weekly Reform and Conservative services are student-led. The Jewish Student Association plans social events, where students can relax and celebrate together, and community service projects.

Kay Spiritual Life Center
Hillel is part of the Kay Spiritual Life Center which fosters a sense of community and common interest with other religious groups on campus. It also has close relationships with the various offices within Student Services and programs are often co-sponsored by other campus offices and groups.
