SUKKAH CITY x DC
September 18-October 3, 2021
Presented by the Capital Jewish Museum and National Building Museum in collaboration with Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center
A public display of creative sukkahs, designed by notable architects, are on view at the National Building Museum’s west lawn and Edlavitch DCJCC campus. Commemorating Sukkot—a Jewish holiday that simultaneously celebrates the fall harvest and recalls the Israelites’ journey through the desert—sukkahs are temporary structures in which to share meals, entertain, sleep, and rejoice. Inspired by the theme ‘welcoming a stranger,’ the sukkah designs explore social justice issues, the changing landscape, and the traditions of Sukkot. Sukkah City x DC, the first such presentation in Washington, DC, is a signature program for the new Capital Jewish Museum, opening in 2022.
