Ohev Sholom-The National Synagogue

Ohev Sholom – The National Synagogue is an OU Synagogue in the Nation’s Capital. It is located in the District of Columbia near downtown Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, and Bethesda. Their website lists neighborhood resources including apartments for rent. The congregation offers Shabbat activities, after school programming, summer camp, and Jewish sports leagues, among many other activities. They encourage participation by those with special needs through a monthly dinner with residents of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and have a nearby group home for Jewish residents. Each Thanksgiving, OSTNS provides a free holiday meal for the greater Washington area community for those who may have nowhere to go. They provide communal meals each Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot and Pesach and build a sukkah in downtown DC to provide a sukkah where Jews who work in the area can have their lunch. OSTNS owns two historic cemeteries, in Southeast DC and in Capitol Heights, MD, that offer an affordable burial option for members who wish to be buried in the DC area.
In the summer Ohev Shalom offers Camp Kibbutz for ages 5 through 13. Day camp activities range from athletics to the arts. There is also a one-week sleepaway option for certain ages.
