Thanksgiving

Giving Thanks by Doing Good

One of the best ways we can show our gratitude for our blessings in life is to share our good fortune with others. We don’t need to be financially rich to feel blessed and contribute to our community.  Donating our time to help those in need is both fulfilling and generous. The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Doing Good initiative is a great place to start.

Doing Good with The Jewish Federation was created to bring together all of Federation’s social action projects, and create a cohesive schedule of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. The initiative was a way for volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and interests to pursue a shared passion for Tikkun Olam (repairing the world).

As in the past, we will be joining the Edavtich DCJCC for an additional day of their annual Everything But The Turkey on November 24th, 25th and 26th. This annual Thanksgiving Day of Service fights hunger throughout Greater Washington.

You and your family do not need a structured framework to have an impact on hunger in your community. You can volunteer or set up a service project at any time. Why not incorporate a project into your family Thanksgiving gathering? Before or after dinner gather everyone to help with a service project in your own home. Suggestions for projects can be found on the Doing Good online project bank. The list also includes some suggestions of places to drop off your collections, food or gifts.
