Literacy Council of Montgomery County

The Literacy Council of Montgomery County, Maryland is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults in Montgomery County learn to speak, read, write and understand English. We train volunteers to tutor one-on-one or with small groups of students. Each year, the Literacy Council provides free tutoring to approximately 800 – 1,000 adults in Montgomery County.

The Literacy Council recently received a Building Capacity grant from Maryland Literacy Works and the US Department of Education to implement ESL classes that meet Maryland standards for adult education. They are currently offered at four local elementary schools.
