The Ethiopian Community Services and Development Council (ECSDC) is a non-profit community-based organization established in 2002 to address the various needs of Ethiopian immigrants in the District of Columbia and surrounding States. Not long after its establishment, the ECSDC expanded its services to other needy African immigrants. Many immigrants face with difficulty to become accustomed to a new country, a new language and different customs and values, to make a stable and sustainable living for themselves, their families and their communities. Some among the obstacles for successful integration are inability to communicate due to low level of and English language skills, lack of orientations about the history and culture of this country, and lack of awareness on their rights and responsibilities as residents and/or citizens of the United States of America and to function satisfactorily in the society.
