Community Family Life Services

Community Family Life Services has two primary goals: to provide short-term crisis and emergency assistance; and to empower individuals and families to successfully change their lives. Our diverse programs and services include transitional housing, mentoring for individuals and families, employment coaching and job placement, medical case management, reentry case management, family education (parenting group sessions and individual sessions), mentoring and emergency services that include daily or weekly food and clothing distribution.

Programs and Services:

  • Transitional housing for homeless women and families; and single room housing for previously homeless adults with low income.

  • Emergency food and clothing to meet the most basic necessities of life for homeless and low-income individuals and families as well as for women returning home after a period of incarceration.

  • Medical case management for individuals living with HIV or AIDS to insure they have access to and utilize necessary medical, mental health, and other supportive services. Other support services include life skill development and substance abuse counseling.

  • Women’s reentry housing initiative with housing and intensive case management for women with children who have been released from prison or jail within the last 90 days or are within four months of being released.

  • Case Management to provide release planning and navigation supports to women incarcerated in the Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF) in the District of Columbia.

  • Employability development and job placement to help individuals reach their career goals through assistance with creating resumes and cover letters, conducting job searches and providing professional development techniques such as mock interviewing.

  • Mentoring provided by trained and experienced volunteers for low-income families and women with children returning from prison or jail to facilitate their linkage to positive social support systems.

  • Group and individual parents to identify family strengths, create social support groups among participants and to empower parents to establish healthy parenting style.
