Art and Remembrance is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation. It is an arts and educational organization that seeks to change people’s hearts and minds by illuminating the experience of war, oppression, and injustice through the power and passion of personal narrative in art.
Art and Remembrance was founded in 2003 by Bernice Steinhardt and Helene McQuade. As the daughters of Holocaust survivor Esther Nisenthal Krinitz, they grew up with the stories of their mother’s courage and suffering as a child during the war. Years later Esther began to turn her stories into a narrated series of fabric art pictures.
Art and Remembrance aims to do the following: exhibit the works of these artists, write about them in books and other interpretive materials, create films about them, and develop educational materials for school-age children.
