Bender JCC – Fitness Floor Staff

The Bender JCC is accepting resumes for part-time Fitness Floor Staff positions. Fitness floor staff presents a constant presence in the fitness center and associated areas to maintain a clean and safe environment and to engage and assist all members and guests.

Located at 6125 Montrose Road in Rockville, this community center is at the heart of Jewish life in Montgomery County, operating a full-scale health and fitness center, preschool, day camp and a variety of education and arts programs.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Be present on the fitness center floor or associated fitness areas
  • Engage members and guests in their health and well being
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Communicate usage and other activities through verbal and written channels

Other Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts
  • Wear designated staff uniform of red fitness shirt, black or khaki pants or shorts and athletic shoes
  • Assist members in the use of equipment as needed
  • Engage members in conversation about Bender JCC programs and associated activities
  • Wipe down all parts of equipment including the seats
  • Monitor locker rooms
  • Tactfully enforce fitness center rules and policies
  • Rent towels as needed to members and guests
  • Monitor and refill touchless soap and equipment wipes dispensers
  • Complete communications logs at the end of each shift
  • Be aware of equipment issues, malfunctions or damage and report these to the fitness manager or the fitness director
  • Manage TVs and radio throughout the fitness center
  • Refrain from using personal handheld devices while on duty unless for emergency reasons
  • Open and close the fitness center per the daily shift checklist

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift 40lbs or greater
  • Ability to work varied hours within the normal operating hours of the fitness center
  • Ability to manage and adjust different forms of media (television/radio)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge and use of varied fitness equipment provided to members and guests
  • Ability to use 2-way radio (walkie talkie)
  • Ability to use varied forms of media utilized in the fitness center
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Basic computer/internet usage

Education and Experience:

  • CPR/AED Certification
  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of, and respect for, the mission of the Bender JCC
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Bender JCC, including its Personnel Handbook, and to abide by them
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned
