Happy Chanukah

Celebrate Chanukah with PJ Library and Our Partners!

Chanukah begins on Sunday, December 18th.  For the following week, Jewish families around the world will gather to celebrate the Festival of Lights with latkes, dreidels, gifts, giving back and more.  You can join a community celebration or use our resources to create a celebration at home.  Chanukah ends at sundown on Monday, December 26th.

Chanukah Movie Night and Havdalah

Boogie-Woogie Klezmer Brunch with The Music Pilgrim Trio & Daryl Davis

Klezmer brunch is back and family friendly this December! Music lovers of all ages are welcome to join us for Boogie-Woogie Klezmer Brunch with Seth Kibel paired with the Music Pilgrim Trio & Daryl Davis. There will be concert seating for those who want it, but children will not be expected to sit quietly — dancing is encouraged!

Enjoy a bag-tastic and exciting opportunity to learn about Jewish customs and holidays through arts & crafts, stories, and discussions. Get ready for a week of light and miracles with these hands-on activity kits. During our class on December 15th, we will share some of our art projects, read books together and sing some songs. Presented by Bender JCC and Pozez JCC’s Growing Jewish Families. Bags must be ordered by Wednesday, December 7th.

Chanukah Havdalah in Pajamas

Join PJ Library, Berman Hebrew Academy, Kehilat Pardes, and The Jewish Federation to celebrate how to bring more light into the world with Chanukah (the Festival of Lights) and Havdalah. After a warm, spirited Havdalah ceremony to end Shabbat, we’ll create our own lanterns for a lantern walk!

We will begin the program with story telling from PJ Library and then families will work to solve puzzles that allow them to eventually celebrate the joy of Hanukkah! Chanukah with Grandfriends

Join us for a virtual, multi-generational event for PJ kids and their “grandfriends” to celebrate the Festival of Lights with stories, a de-light-ful craft project, and games. Register by December 7th to receive the project materials in the mail. Registration opens 11/17.

This is a collaboration of PJ Library, Bender JCC, Edlavitch DCJCC, Pozez JCC’s Growing Jewish Families, HoneymoonIsrael, and The Jewish Federation of Great Washington.

Shabbat Hanukkah

SNACK — Hanukkah-themed hot appetizers, cheese, crackers, and fruit! Perfect for families looking to feed their kids before the service — and help get everyone into the holiday spirit!

SCHMOOZE — This half-hour is a great time to connect with the people around you! Kids (and playful grown-ups) can play with giant Connect 4 and Jenga sets, cornhole, and other arts & crafts activities. Obviously, everyone can have their turn with dreidels, too!

BJC’s Hanukkah Celebration!

Dinner is $20 per person and $10 for children currently enrolled in BJC Youth Education.

Bring the kids for “Maccabee Warrior Training” at 5:30 PM. The kids will have the opportunity to make a Hanukkah card. Then they’ll run the obstacle course to see who can make it as a Maccabee! A delicious Hanukkah dinner with latkes, chicken tenders, sweet and sour meatballs, and more will be served at 6:15. We won’t forget the sufagniyot! Then stay for the Hanukkah Shabbat service at 7:00 PM in Covenant Hall.

Celebrate Chanukah with the JFamily team at the EDCJCC! Our annual Chanukah party, held indoors, will feature a sing-along with children’s entertainer Mr. Ari; Chanukah-themed arts and crafts stations; story time; bouncing; seasonal treats; and more. We will also be collecting donations of new, never-worn kids gloves/mittens (all sizes and colors welcomed) in partnership with D25 Day of Service to help families with young kids who are either currently experiencing homelessness or have transitioned out of homelessness.

Join us for a family-oriented, community-wide candle lighting event featuring holiday-themed activities, including latkes, dreidel playing, doughnuts, kids crafts, music, a photo booth and more!

This program is a collaboration of Gesher Jewish Day School, Beth Chaverim, Pozez JCC’s Growing Jewish Families, PJ Library, Congregation Sha’are Shalom, Friends of the IDF, BBYO, Shoresh, the Jewish National Fund, Capital Camps, and The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Hanukkah Party

The Lessans Family Literary Series presents a Hanukkah story time celebration. Wendy Bryant, author of Hanukkah Veronica: The Mitzvah Fairy will share her story about the magic of mitzvahs (good deeds). Bender JCC’s CEO Josh Bender will also lead a musical performance followed by our Center menorah lighting! Stick around and enjoy your favorite Hanukkah goodies, crafts, and hot chocolate. This event is perfect for kids and adults of all ages.

The commUNITY is invited to attend… Everyone welcome! Activities begin at 5:00 PM; Menorah Lighting begins at 5:30 PM. Masks are encouraged. In case of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 3:00 PM and the program will be Zoom only.

Come light the menorah, eat delicious latkes, spin some dreidels, and have a great time creating community with other Jews of Color and their families! Please note this holiday celebration is specifically curated for community members who identify as Jews of Color and for their families. If you do not identify as being part of this community, we invite you to attend a different Chanukah event happening at the EDCJCC instead.
