Chanukah begins on Thursday, December 10. For the following week, Jewish families around the world will gather to celebrate the Festival of Lights with latkes, dreidels, gifts, giving back and more. You can join a community celebration or use our resources to create a celebration at home. Chanukah ends at sundown on Friday, December 18.

The Bender JCCGW presents a bagtastic and exciting opportunity to learn about Jewish customs and holidays through arts & crafts, stories, and discussions. When you sign up, we will hand-deliver* Jewish themed arts & crafts activities to your door to work on independently with your kid(s). A few days later we will get together over zoom and share our creative crafts, read a story, and learn cool facts about the Jewish topic. This program is perfect for children 3+ years old.

Join PJ Library, Berman Hebrew Academy and Kehilat Pardes to start a new week with Havdalah and then light your family chanukiyah (Chanukah menorah) together as a community on the third night of Chanukah. Rabbi Uri Topolosky will sing songs, share a story, and help us all have a joyful start to a new week.

Join Morah Jen from Agudas Achim We’ll read a story, do a craft project, and enjoy a snack together. Bring your own sufganiyot (donuts) or latkes (potato pancakes)! If you sign up for a FREE Goody Bag, the materials for the craft project are included. If not, you’ll need colorful cellophane paper, tissue paper, or something similar; clear contact paper; a Star of David pattern; a pencil; and scissors for adult and child. We’re going to make suncatchers!

On Chanukkah, we can spread the light of the holiday with others by giving back. Encourage your child to dedicate one night of Chanukah as a Tzedakah Night, purchasing items for others instead of receiving a gift. Bring a donation for DC Diaper Bank (see wish list) in the morning. Later that day, join us on Zoom for a bake-along with Paula Shoyer! We will make blue-and-white cookies, ending with lighting the menorah together at 5:30 PM.
You can pick up an activity kit for your family when you drop off your donation or arrange an alternate option by contacting us. This is a program of Pop-Ups to Pop In, funded by the Phyllis Margolius Family Foundation.

Bring your lunch or snack and have some fun with Melissa and Michelle! Pop-in and you will find Chanukah crafts, stories, and surprises. You will receive a supply list with your confirmation email.

Bring a snack and get those sillies out with Pozez JCC’s J-Family Ambassadors Tracy and Julie. Whether it is a puppet show, a craft or a special guest, Tracy and Julie will be there to end your day with a smile! Supplies needed will be included in your confirmation email. Enjoy a bag-tastic and exciting opportunity to learn about Jewish customs and holidays through arts & crafts, stories, and discussions. Get ready for a week of light and miracles with candles, dreidels, several Chanukah art projects, a few treats and a Tikkun Olam project. During our class on December 10th at 4pm we will share some of our art projects, read books together and sing some songs. Presented by Bender JCC, Edlavitch DCJCC and Pozez JCC’s Growing Jewish Families.
