Women & Children at the Center: The Feminism in Yiddish Children’s Literature

Join us in conversation with Dr. Laura Shaw-Frank, Director of Contemporary Jewish Life at the AJC and Darshanit Dr. Miriam Udel, Associate Professor of Yiddish Language, Literature and Culture at Emory University, discuss the feminist underpinnings of Udel’s research on Yiddish children’s literature and especially, her new book, Honey on the Page: A Treasury of Yiddish Children’s Literature (NYU Press, October 2020).

Often relegated to “stories from times gone by”, Dr. Udel’s unique analysis of these Yiddish tales brings to light an underlying feminism within that is resonant and incredibly of-the-moment. Join us for an illuminating conversation that will uncover messages that are startlingly poignant and relevant in these turbulent times we find ourselves navigating.
