Virtual J: The Yom Kippur War – The War That Changed Israel

Presented digitally on Zoom by Itzhak Brook, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, author and Embassy of Israel Speaker

The Yom Kippur War is sometimes referred to as the 7th day of the Six Day War. Dr. Brook’s presentation will include the historical perspectives of the 1973 Yom Kippur War and its long-term effects on Israeli society and the peace process. In addition, he will highlight personal experiences as a battalion physician and open up a discussion of the challenges of preserving one’s humanity and ethical values during wartime. His talk will touch upon caring for wounded enemy soldiers, dealing with fear, anxiety and PTSD, how religious beliefs affect coping with war, and finally the painful cost of war.
