Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) will be holding a gala to inaugurate the creation of the Jennifer Margolius Fisher Memorial Fund.

SACH is an Israeli-based international humanitarian project providing life-saving heart surgeries and follow-up care for children from developing countries. Our mission is to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children from developing countries, who suffer from congenital heart disease and to create medical centers of competence in these countries. One in every one hundred babies is born with congenital heart disease. Almost one third of them will need surgery during their first 12 months. Without surgery, 20% will die within weeks after birth. Presently, there are more than 1000 children on our waiting list.
SACH is a hospital-based project whose services are provided in Holon, Israel at the Sylvan Adams Children’s Hospital by a team of 70 dedicated experts who, from chief surgeon to physiotherapist, volunteer their time without any payment. SACH has been recognized by the US government, European Union, and United Nations for its achievements. It is the only Israeli medical organization that the Palestinian Authority has a formal partnership with.
SACH’s objectives are achieved through:
• Providing life-saving cardiac surgeries for children from developing countries in Israel.
• Providing a full training program for the medical personnel from these countries.
• Holding pre-operative and follow-up clinics, and leading medical missions to partner countries for screening, operating, and training.
SACH patients, whose ages range from infants to teenagers, come from the “Four Corners of The Earth”: 40% of the children are from Africa; 49% from the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Jordan & Iraq; 11% from other countries, including Afghanistan, China, Ethiopia, Iraq, Moldova, Palestinian Authority, Romania, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The number of cardiac surgeries performed by SACH has grown dramatically from 48 cases in 1996 to more than 300 annually, and over 6,000 children have been saved.
Since its inception in 1996, the SACH medical team has examined and evaluated more than 10,000 children from 63 different countries, including a cardiology clinic held at the WMC every Tuesday for Palestinian children from Gaza and the West Bank.
SACH has trained more than 100 physicians and nurses at the SACH center in Israel, from China, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Moldova, Nigeria, Palestinian Authority, Romania, Russia, Vietnam, and Zanzibar. SACH has trained Tanzania’s first pediatric cardiac surgeon and Ethiopia’s first pediatric cardiac surgeon. SACH has traveled overseas performing more than 180 life-saving surgeries alongside local personnel in China, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Moldova, and Ukraine.
SACH has just built a new Children’s Hospital, which will house the Middle East’s first international pediatric cardiac care center and serve 10% of Israel’s children.
