Prophet Sharing: Rabbis Reflect on the Roles of the Prophets

Date: Thursday, October 15, 2020 - Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Time: 9:30 am - 11:00 am
Online OnlyOnline Only

History thinks of the prophets as superheroes – people who can see the future, speak directly with God, and communicate inspiring messages. But how is the prophetic message received in real-time? Nobody wants to hear that society will be doomed unless people make changes they are not prepared to make. With all their eccentricities, it is easy to dismiss prophets as crazy. This was as true in ancient times as it was today.

Using in-depth text study, our diverse group of rabbis explores the role of the prophet in ancient times in order to understand the implications of the prophetic message for today.

This twelve-week course will be taught by six local rabbis, representing different Jewish denominations:

Rabbi Nissan Antine, Beth Sholom Congregation and Talmud Torah
Rabbi Mitchell Berkowitz, B’nai Israel Congregation
Rabbi Gary Pokras, Temple Beth Ami
Rabbi Adam Raskin, Congregation Har Shalom
Rabbi Michael Safra, B’nai Israel Congregation
Rabbi Baht Weiss, Temple Beth Ami
