About Our High Holiday Ensemble

Rabbi Dr. Yossi Kastan – Scholar In Residence

Rabbi Dr. Yossi Kastan is the Head of School at Berman Hebrew Academy here in Rockville. Originally from North Miami Beach, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Business from Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business, his semicha from Rabbi Ari Kahn, and his Master’s and Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. He is a graduate of the Day School Leadership Training Institute (DSLTI) and the Harvard Principal’s Center. Prior to his role at Berman, he was the Head of School at Brauser Maimonides Academy in Hollywood, Florida. He is married to Kara, and they have four children, Anaelle, Netanel, Lielle, and Gavriel. When he is not at school or spending time with his family, Rabbi Dr. Kastan can be found reading, cooking and baking, or exercising.

Liran Kohn – Hazan of Magen David Sephardic Congregation

Liran has recently joined the Magen David Sephardic Congregation as Hazan. Born in Jerusalem, Liran is the oldest to 3 sisters and grew up in upstate New York. He attended high school in Israel and served 3 years in the Golani brigade. He was the Hazan at Baba Sale Congregation in Los Angeles for 7 years. Currently, in addition to his vital role at Magen David, he’s a Private Client Mortgage Banker with Wells Fargo.

Rabbi Yossi Amiga – Visiting Hazan

Hazan Yossi Amiga is a Rabbi at Yeshivat Torat Nahum in Modi’in, Israel. He earned his Rabbinic certification from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and has studied hazanut under Rabbi Haim Louk and Hazan Eliyahou Ouzan. He conducts Shabbatot Hatan, wedding ceremonies, and bar mitzvot in Israel and around the world. Rabbi Amiga has been the Hazan and Ba’al Tekia on the High Holidays at Magen David Sephardic Congregation for 13 years! He is married to Nurit and they have seven children.
