Antisemitism from Rabbinic Times to Jews in France Today wth Delphine Horvilleur

Please join the American University Center for Israel Studies and Jewish Studies Program for the first event of the spring semester in our ongoing 2020-21 Antisemitism Series, with French Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur.

In her new book, Anti-Semitism Revisited: How the Rabbis Made Sense of Hatred , French Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur explores how the hatred of Jews is seen through the lens of the sacred texts, rabbinical tradition and Jewish lore. She will discuss both traditional and modern Jewish responses to antisemitism, including its latest manifestations in today’s France. Moderated by AU Professor Michael Brenner.

Delphine Horvilleur is a French rabbi, author of several essays and managing editor of Tenou’a review. She worked as a journalist for the French television from 2000 to 2003, serving notably in the Middle East office in Jerusalem. She then studied at the Hebrew Union College (HUC) in New York and was ordained in 2008. She is one of the founding members of KeReM, the council of French-speaking liberal rabbis and works as a rabbi for Judaïsme en Mouvement, a community affiliated with the World Union for Progressive Judaism.

Michael Brenner is Seymour and Lillian Abensohn Chair in Israel Studies and Director of the Center for Israel Studies at American University. He is also Professor of Jewish History and Culture at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich
