The Naomi and Nehemiah Cohen Foundation was formed in 1959 to continue its founders’ life-long commitment to social justice, helping those in need, and promoting the welfare of the Jewish people. Today, NNCF makes grants totaling more than $4 million each year, primarily to organizations working in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and in Israel.

Funding Priorities
In the Washington, DC area, NNCF’s priorities include: increasing effective citizen involvement in civic affairs; promoting access to reproductive health care, legal services, housing, and social services for teens, low-income, at-risk and homeless individuals; and local Jewish social justice initiatives.

Nationally, the Foundation provides support for science-based environmental advocacy, particularly ocean conservation and re-use/recycling; reproductive rights and access to long-acting reversible contraceptives; civic affairs including voter education and mobilization; and Jewish social justice programs.

In Israel, NNCF’s goal is to help the State of Israel flourish as a Jewish and democratic state that lives in security and peace with its neighbors and that provides equal rights for all its citizens. Accordingly, the Foundation supports programs that promote a negotiated ???two-state??? solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, that defend the civil and human rights of all persons, and that seek to provide equal access to educational and economic opportunities for all Israeli citizens, including the Arab citizens of Israel.
