The reality is that divorce does happen, but it does not have to be an adversarial battleground. The collaborative divorce approach promotes an honest, transparent exchange of information to facilitate problem-solving with a commitment from participants not to go to court. Collaborative divorce is a team approach that may include lawyers, divorce coaches, child specialists and financial experts. The process may also call upon the expertise of other professionals such as clergy when indicated.

JSSA’s team of highly skilled collaborative professionals offers a one-time divorce consultation free of charge to help an individual or couple understand all the ways to divorce and why the collaborative model may be a good fit. They can also help a couple obtain the referrals they may need to assemble their collaborative team. Please note that Collaborative Divorce is a full-fee service.

Divorce is always traumatic for families ??? especially when children are involved. Research suggests that developing a comprehensive, individualized parenting plan with the assistance of a mental health divorce coach, helps prioritize your children’s needs during the separation or divorce process. A parenting plan is a written agreement which provides guidelines for dealing with responsibilities related to the couple’s child(ren). A typical parenting plan often outlines scheduled time with each parent, holidays and vacations, major decision-making, exchange of information, how to handle an impasse on a parenting issue and how the plan might be updated in the future.

Child specialist. The role of the child specialist is to provide a safe place for children to share their feelings and concerns and ask questions about the divorce process. While the child specialist does not provide therapy, they play an important, time-limited role in helping parents understand what their children are experiencing and what their needs are during this difficult process. The child specialist serves as a resource to parents and provides feedback and recommendations to the collaborative team as they develop a parenting plan that strives to ensure the best interest of the children.

JSSA’s highly trained staff is here to ensure that you and your family receive the help you need to move forward.

In addition, JSSA offers separation and divorce workshop and support groups for adults and children. JSSA strives to help couples and their children preserve family bonds as they move forward during this transition.
