Jewish Federation of Greater Washington - Director, The Network

Position Overview:

The Director of The Network is an entrepreneurial, dynamic team leader and experienced fundraiser with a proven track record driving professionals and lay leaders towards organizational excellence. The Director thrives on building and stewarding relationships, cultivating leadership and developing and implementing engagement opportunities to expand the reach of Federation and grow Federation’s $1,000-$10,000 donor base. This position serves as a senior member of the Financial Resource Development team, working with the organization’s most significant donors and top leadership, and requiring a high level of charisma, drive, skill, discretion and teamwork.

The Director will oversee the fundraising and program management of The Network, including three professional staff members, an Advisory Council and volunteer ambassadors. The Director is an experienced relationship builder who is committed to providing excellent customer service.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises a professional team of three including two Development Officers and a Senior Campaign Assistant to establish, analyze, evaluate and track fundraising and engagement goals, metrics and progress and to provide guidance, leadership and motivation to better Federation’s product and increase the size and giving of the donor base.
  • Manages all fundraising activities related to The Network including developing discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donors and prospects ($1,000 - $9,999)
  • Empowers and develops current and future lay leaders and focuses on volunteer management to motivate and build an effective lay leadership team and a large base of volunteer ambassadors to identify, initiate and develop solicitation efforts, enhance current initiatives and implement fundraising.
  • Partners with other members of the Senior Campaign Team (Directors of Women’s Philanthropy, Philanthropic Leadership and Young Leadership) to provide a holistic Federation experience, sharing best practices and creating collaborative opportunities for engagement
  • Works with a personal donor management portfolio through a moves management process which includes cultivation and solicitation of donors
  • Leads efforts in partnership with the Engagement Department, lay leaders and other professional staff to plan and execute The Network programming (including, but not limited to, managing speaker acquisition, logistical coordination, attendee recruitment, managing event chairs, coordination of marketing efforts, and follow-up.)
  • Works to assure donor satisfaction with the highest level of customer service
  • Other work-related duties as assigned


  • 5-8 years of experience in annual fundraising, marketing, sales or a related field with management and supervisory responsibilities
  • College degree required; MBA or Master’s level degree in a related field preferred
  • Knowledge of fundraising systems and experience in prospect identification
  • Strong donor-relations skills: proven ability in creating strategies to cultivate prospects and channel donor engagement leading to greater charitable support
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff at all levels
  • Significant experience in management of membership or volunteer operations and volunteer management
  • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written; with a strong focus on social media and presentations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfortable with and open to new technology
  • Ability to work independently, perform well under pressure, juggle multiple tasks and exhibit sound judgment
  • Commitment to the mission of The Jewish Federation
  • Intimate knowledge of the Jewish Community, it’s customs and practices
  • Familiarity with the Greater Washington business community
