PJ Library

Your Child's Treasury of Jewish Books

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is thrilled to share PJ Library® (PJ, as in “pajamas”) with our entire community. This program provides families raising Jewish children from 6 months–8 years old with a FREE treasury of Jewish books and music! Every month, families enrolled in PJ Library receive a high-quality, expertly-selected and kid-tested (!) Jewish book or CD as a gift from the community. PJ Library in Greater Washington is a gift from The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, the Perlin Family Foundation, the Emanuel J. Friedman Philanthropies, the Bender Foundation, the Charles E. Smith Family Foundation, the David Bruce Smith Foundation and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

Celebrate Purim with PJ Library and Our Partners!

Be happy, it’s almost Purim!

Purim, one of the most raucous holidays in the Jewish calendar, is coming up on March 20th. It's traditional celebrated by observing four mitzvot (commandments):

  1. Hearing the megillah (the Book of Esther) read
  2. Having a festive meal
  3. Giving food gifts to friends (mishloach manot)
  4. Giving gifts to the poor (matanot le’evyonim)

You can get more information about the holiday, including recipes, costume ideas, books, videos and more, on PJ Library’s Purim Holiday Hub. PJ Library in Greater Washington has paired with our community partners to offer a variety of ways to share these mitzvot with your family!
