Disability Inclusion


An inclusive community is a stronger community.  We are working to reduce barriers to participation at all events and invite you to search for programs based on your areas of interest on the full calendar; click on “View All Events”.  Please note that you can also search for events which are physically accessible, metro accessible or provide support individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.

The calendar listings below include events especially designed for people with disabilities. When we live up to ideals that Judaism values – belief in the collective while mutually respecting individual diversity—we are a stronger community. Jews with disabilities and their families have needs that are universal to all families and should be included in all aspects of the Jewish communal life.  To advance this ideal of disability inclusion requires the active involvement of those already involved and those outside the disability community. Sunflower Bakery, a non-profit certified kosher pareve bakery, prepares individuals with developmental or other cognitive disabilities through skilled, on-the-job training for employment in pastry, baking or related industries. Café Sunflower & Bakery has recently opened in the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington Building, 6101 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20852.
