As you read this, I am probably frantically running around trying to finish the last-minute details for my kids’ b’nai mitzvah* this weekend. As I run through my “to do” list — which seems to get longert every time I look at it — there is one word that keeps running through my mind: hodaya (gratitude). I am grateful to the community that has provided a foundation, an education, and a village for my family. From The Jewish Federation to PJ Library, from JCCs to day schools, from congregations to Jewish organizations, all have been part of our family’s Jewish journey to get to this milestone.
My daughter was a baby when I started working with PJ Library, expanding the program from Northern Virginia to all of Greater Washington. The kids who began receiving books eleven years ago are now off at college, enjoying high school or, like my son and daughter, preparing for their b’nai mitzvah. PJ Library and PJ Our Way books accompanied their childhoods, exposing them to a broader view of Jewish life.
I want to express my gratitude to you for being a part of PJ Library for all these years. Creating a strong community relies on a strong foundation of knowledge. Sharing your love of PJ Library with friends and family has helped us grow to become the best Jewish book club in the country! I hope that your home library has been as meaningful to you as it’s been for our family.
In gratitude,
Sarah
* A b’nai mitzvah is the plural of a bar or bat mitzvah, the Jewish coming of age ritual.
