Current Opportunities:

ReSET (Retired Scientists, Engineers and Technicians ) Volunteer Teachers

ReSET (Retired Scientists, Engineers and Technicians) is launching a new effort to introduce science to two, three and four year olds in day care centers throughout the Metro DC area. We are working on the same principle as reading is taught, that is, just as reading is introduced by learning to recognize the alphabet, we will introduce them to the vocabulary of science. Volunteer scientists will do hands-on experiments with the children in each of three sciences: physics, chemistry and biology. Volunteers will meet once a week with a class for a half hour for ten weeks in the Fall and ten weeks in the Spring. Classes will be either two year olds or three and four year olds. The ten-week curriculum of hands-on experiments will be provided along with all the laboratory equipment needed. Volunteers will receive training. ReSET is seeking four volunteer scientists or engineers who can commit to one year.  ReSET began in 1988 and has been operating successfully in elementary schools in the Washington, DC area ever since. We presently have over 60 volunteers in 25 schools.  For more information call 888-246-1818 or email.
