Washington, DC’s Yavneh Jewish Education Program is searching for an Education Director to begin work in February, 2011. Yavneh is an after-school Jewish religious education program in the Capital Hill neighborhood serving students from Pre Kindergarten through Bar/Bat Mitzvah class. Yavneh operates in association with the Hill Havurah Congregation. Our school has experienced rapid growth in the last two years and currently teaches sixty students. Yavneh is looking for an Education Director to help mature our educational program and curriculum. Responsibilities for the Education Director position will include: • Being present and coordinating class logistics on site from 3.00 PM until 6.30 PM on Tuesdays throughout the school year • Developing and overseeing Yavneh’s curriculum • Hiring and managing teachers • Serving as a resource/mentor for teachers with a great deal of subject knowledge but varying degrees of educational experience • Organizing special events and in-school celebrations of Jewish Holidays • Liaising by telephone and in-person with volunteer parent coordinators • Facilitating communication and volunteer opportunities between Yavneh and parents • Managing enrollment and class size • Attending miscellaneous administrative duties The part time position will require about eight hours a week through the school year and the management of enrollment and teacher hiring during the summer. We also anticipate some commitment towards revitalizing and organizing the curriculum over the coming summer.
